RE: spider!!

A quote to counter the fear: "The brown recluse spider, Loxosceles reclusa, is found throughout the south central and midwestern United States. Infestations in Kentucky are intermittent, becoming more common as one travels westward. Other species of Loxosceles spiders occur in the southwestern U.S. and southern California, but the brown recluse is the most notable and widespread. Recluse spiders are rare outside their native range and are widely over-reported. Occasionally, one or a few spiders may be transported to a non-native area in boxes or furnishings, but infestations seldom become established". The above quote is from a article by Mike Potter, Extension Entomologist University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef631.asp. Another well known doctor who specializes with spider bites says there are no brown recluses north of the mason dixon line unless they hitched a ride. If hitching a ride, they do not live long in the north. They are rarely seen outside their native areas! I do not know why Dr. Gilmore choses to instill fear with her claim of the Brown Recluse being spread all over the United States? There are other spiders which look similiar and do have a nasty bite. Often bites are misdiagnosed by a doctor who "thinks" it is a brown recluse spider bite.
So, they could be in your area if they caught a ride and you find them right away. But most likely they are not in your area.

RE: Bailment

Whew, to confusing. You go to a restaurant. The restaurant has a valet parking service. You give your keys to the valet. YOU (car owner) are the Bailor. The valet/restaurant is the Bailee.
These are terms of art for the respective rights of the parties. The question is unimportant unless somethign bad happens.
For example, the valet returns the car with a big dent in it. Who pays? (depends on circumstances). Valet returns the car, sterio stolen, who pays (depends).Very simple - If they don't let me park it, I leave. I left Booth Bay, Maine for that very reason. My car has a clutch and a diesel with a lot of torque. Most of those guys are not use to it and I refuse to let any of them take out my clutch! No one in Booth Bay got any of my money, just because I could not park my own car!

RE: Bad Walmart Campers II

Much much better than parking exactly centered between two operating reefer units (refrigator trailers) at a truck stop lot. Will never do that again!!!

RE: Portaboat

Visit the Portabote site. Lots of pics there as how to carry them. Also the portabote group site on yahoo groups has pics of how folks carry them. You will have to carry the seats in one of the compartments or inside somewhere. You can carry the folded up bote strapped on the roof or on the ladder. Have seen brackets attached on the sides that fold and hold the botes. You could strap it underneath the motorhome. Or on the roof of your toad if you are towing a toad. The 4 stroke outboard, if you lay it down, can be layed down only on one side!!! I've been thing of building a mounting bracket on the back of the motorhome for the motor. Anyway, check out those sites for some ideas.

RE: Instant Garages

There are better choices out there. We had a "Cover-it" brand greenhouse/storage "building" for quite a number of years. Even moved it when we moved. Was a 10'x24'. Could fit a car or pick-up inside. Handled the snowload excellent as it had a domed style roof. This was in the western New York snow belt off Lake Erie. Think we had it at least 8 years. And we gave it away to someone who is still using it. They had larger ones that should work for motorhomes. Don't know if the company is still around or not. Do a web search.

RE: On license and DOT cert.

There were a half-dozen folks in the RMV office with the same infraction and reports that everyone with a pick-up and passenger plates being pulled over for weight checks. This is a huge revenue producer for the towns who write a $100 ticket and the state who charged me $110 for a plate that expires on December 31. And that was after taking the passenger plate which I just paid $75 for which was good for another two years.Sounds like lots of Mass LEOs writing these tickets. Have a friend who is a retired trooper who says he was nothing but a "revenue collector" for the governor. They must be telling those LEOs up there what to look for. Lets see, we'll write the Ford Powerstrokes today and the Chevy Duramaxs tomorrow. And then we'll get those Dodges with the Cummins the next day. That should work.

RE: Who shows title to CG operator?

Sounds like there is confusion between the title and registration of the vehicle.
Do not carry the title with you in the RV unless you are planning on selling it. It is a very foolish thing to do. If someone gets the title, they have the ability to re-register it as theirs and you will have difficulty recovering your property.
All that is required is that you carry the registration certificate in the vehicle and show it to LE when requested. As to showing it to a CG operator: Why?I agree. Don't know what they call a registration in foreign countrys. They might just call it a title. The word "bloke" may mean the same thing is the dicationary, but is not used the same way in Australia as it is in England.

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

Big Ray - what is this?
"jad1124 are you dealing with Pat at Forest River? If not can you please PM me with the info. Im sorry to hear about this. I had a 2006 315BHT had the same thing,I was lucky to have my dealer and Forest River buy it back. I hope NO ONE BUYS ANOTHER SIERRA or SANDPIPER AGAIN! They knew about the FLEXING and did nothing. I think some heads should ROLL! It's a sham. The bad thing about this is that some owners will think this the way it should be. Good Luck"
You seem to have a love / hate affair going on with FR and Pat! What is the deal. Did you sign something when they brought it back saying you would stick up for them?

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

I would love to tell every one what I do know but I told Pat at FR that I would not say. It's a shame the way some people are jumping on FR about this and not knowing the whole story. If this is true, I think Pat at FR doesn't know enough to keep from running at the mouth and if he worked for me he would know where the door is by now!
And Big Ray, your dying to tell so why don't you. By running off at the mouth about Pat telling his opinion of what is going on here, you have ruined any chance of advancement for him.

RE: On license and DOT cert.

wny_pat is the winner: The state law requires all vehicles 10,001 and over to be registered as commercial vehicles. The RMV supervisor acknowledged that my passenger plate had been issued and renewed in error as I've never hidden the fact that my truck's GVWR is 11,400 (how could I?).
Gee, sure did not want to win anything. And I do realize at all state's laws are different concerning titling and registration. But here in NYS, we have this thing with 10,000 lbs and DOT numbers. You can be ticketed and then have to prove to the judge that your vehicle is not commercial. In other words, they write the ticket first and not a lot of leo are doing this. But they could. And I know that NYS and the rest of the New England states are a lot alike when it comes to motor vehicle laws. Not completely, but a lot.
At least you know where you stand now.

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

Something is not right with this post. Read the news report from goshen Ind. They are not complaining about FR. There unexpected expense was paid for by there ins. co.Why were they so consumed with this problem that they couldn't even enjoy their childs birthday. Is this a post for $$ We need the real facts. Am I the only one that isn't buying this story. By the way this is there 1st post and they have been rving since last Oct.Because their home is half way around the world. They are stuck in a motel in some small town near the Forest River Facility. And just how much of their stuff was stolen with the 5th wheel unit? You would be consumed too if you were in their shoes!
Oh, your concerned about when they registered here. Their blog started in July. Maybe the picked up a computer in July.

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

From the original post:
Rented a short term accommodation place to stay costing us $2,000 per month as they wanted it for 3-4 weeks. Nasty unexpected expense not covered by Forest River.
THIS IS COVERED BY YOUR INSURANCE, “emergency housing”
Why do you expect Forest River to Pay?
Friday it was my daughters 3rd birthday and while we had planed to spend the day at the zoo and have a family birthday party none of this could happen. Instead she cried she wanted to go home. The only home she remembers is her camper. Meanwhile she was dragged around to do the TV show and newspaper segments in our attempts to rally support to find our camper before it got to far away.
YOU DID THE DRAGGING AROUND, not Forest River.
National Interstate seemed helpful however they said they could not process this until 30 days and then it would take 5-10 days or more depending on whether Forest River agreed to pay.
NOT TRUE. YOUR INSURANCE WILL SETTLE WITH YOU, THEN DEAL WITH FOREST RIVER.
Our insurance company will not speed up there processing and Forest River have walked away from any Duty of Care or responsibility for our lost RV.
DEAL WITH YOUR INSURANCE ADJUSTOR.
You should have a check any day now. National Interstate has the Police report. There is no reason for National Interstate to delay further. Their reputation is at stake as well. Why not complain about them in another blog. Get more folks stirred up. Their are a lot of people who don't like insurance companies.
This will all be settled behind closed doors, by the insurance companies. No wonder they call us Ugly Americans. Would you expect this same treatment in their country?

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

I can't believe that they didn't have security cameras at this repair facility. Local car dealers have security cameras in their repair facilities because they don't want their parts walking out the door let alone the customer's car!Not many facilities have security cameras where some one is watching, zooming and scanning a area. Surveillance cameras are usually stuck up on a pole as a determent, to scare the bad guy off. Not to catch them in the act. And the vcr tape or DVD recorder only lasts so long before it starts over again. And when using that type of system, quality goes down hill very fast.
